PRIMEDIA's TELEPHONY ANNOUNCES NEW FREQUENCY FOR 2003

Telephony will be published 24x in 2003

January 7, 2003 – CHICAGO – Telephony magazine, the leading publication for the telecom service provider market, announced a new 24-issue schedule for 2003. The new frequency will take effect Jan. 13. “The difficult economic conditions in the telecom market necessitate a frequency level that reflects the industry’s current marketing resources," said Mark Hickey, publisher of Telephony. "We strongly believe in the long-term prospects for telecom and in our print and online products as the most influential information sources for the service provider market.”

Telephony's editorial staff will continue to deliver news, industry analysis and technology coverage through its print and online products. “Our editorial commitment to our service provider readership has not changed,” said Jason Meyers, editorial director of Telephony. “With our combination of print and electronic products we will continue to be the broadest information source for all aspects of the broadband economy, delivering in-depth coverage of wireline technology innovation and tracking carrier capex to keep readers on top of how all types of carriers are investing in their networks.”

Telephony continues to innovate and invest in its products and market reach. Telephony recently launched nine e-mail newsletters that have received positive reader response and advertising support. Traffic to TelephonyOnline.com has grown by 93% in the last six months and the site had a record fiscal year in 2002. “We have some exciting expansions planned for our web site and electronic products in 2003,” said Chip Howard, Telephony’s online editor.

“We all look forward to a brighter industry future and increasing our publishing frequency to serve a more robust telecom market. Telephony finished a challenging 2002 as a profitable publication and we plan to be here in a format that is positioned for growth when the marketplace recovers,” said Hickey.
